365mesh Products in Depth: AmbientAI-V

Take a close look at the AmbientAI-V seismic sensor hub: measures ground-transmitted vibrations from construction or mining activity and road and rail traffic to assess the impact of those vibrations on people and property.

The GreenMesh AmbientAI series of hardware products from 365mesh are category-leading devices for indoor and outdoor health and safety monitoring. Together with the advanced GreenMesh AI-enhanced tools and dashboards, AmbientAI devices deliver essential insights into the health and safety of the people and property in your city, factory, farm, mine, or real estate property.

In this article, we’ll take a close look at the AmbientAI-V seismic sensor hub. The AmbientAI-V seismic sensor hub measures ground-transmitted vibrations from construction or mining activity and road and rail traffic to assess the impact of those vibrations on people and property. Additionally, the AmbientAI-V acts as a communication hub for other related sensing systems such as GPS/RTK displacement/subsidence sensors, soil moisture sensors, depth/flow sensors, and weather stations.

Use Cases

The primary use-case for the AmbientAI-V is to assess the source and magnitude of ground-transmitted vibrations due to construction work, mining work, or road and rail traffic. Most countries and states/provinces have very specific limits on the amount of vibration energy that can be imparted on structures and occupants.

GreenMesh AmbientAI-V dashboards display readings compatible with the DIN 4150 standard and provide accurate representations of:

  • Peak Particle Velocity (PPV)
  • Vibration Dose Value (VDV)
  • Root Mean Square (RMS) Acceleration

Monitoring and managing the source and magnitude of vibrations is essential for maintaining the safety of piers, pilings, foundations, mines, buildings, and the people in the vicinity of vibration sources.

How it works

The AmbientAI-V uses high-spec, three-axis, micro electro-mechanical system (MEMS) accelerometer chips to measure the direction, amplitude, and waveform of incoming vibrations. The values from one or more AmbientAI-V sensors are sent to our cloud services to be analysed in accordance with multiple industry standard formulae, standards, and applicable regional regulations. When using multiple AmbientAI-V sensors placed around potential sources of vibration, additional insights can be gained regarding the type and location of the vibration sources.

The AmbientAI-V can also be used in conjunction with GreenMesh AmbientAI-Q air quality sensors to assess air-transmitted vibrations (sounds) and airborne contaminants creating a rich mesh of sensors that enable deeper insights into environmental quality and any contamination events. These sensors can be further combined with AmbientAI-W water-quality sensors and BroadSecure site monitoring to further secure your people and sites against safety hazards and associated liabilities.

Capability and Flexibility

The AmbientAI-V is housed in a heavy, milled and anodised Aluminium IP67 enclosure designed for durability in the harshest of conditions. The AmbientAI-V can be mounted indoors or outdoors on horizontal or vertical surfaces and is internally self-leveling, freeing you from fussy installation procedures. On piers, pilings, foundations, vaults, and walls, the device’s three mounting points can be fastened with chemical bolts or lag bolts to horizontal or vertical surfaces.

The sensor can also be driven into soft soil using the optional soil spikes; or set temporarily on a hard surface using the optional tempered-steel hard-surface spikes; or even direct-buried. We can also provide specialised mounting hardware for non-destructive mounting on listed/protected buildings and monuments.

The AmbientAI-V can be powered from 9-30V DC power derived from mains current, a battery bank, or from a solar power system, or can be powered via Power over Ethernet (PoE). When used with compatible solar systems, the AmbientAI-V can be attached to the RS485 connection on the solar system to allow for remote monitoring of solar power generation and storage.

That same RS485 connection can be used to connect nearby depth sensors or weather stations. Digital and Analog inputs can be used to interface to even more sensors to provide additional insights into site conditions.

The AmbientAI-V connects back to the 365mesh cloud via wired ethernet, optional wifi, or optional 4g/5g terrestrial or 5g non-terrestrial networks (direct-to-satellite NTN). The AmbientAI-V includes two antenna jacks (one for optional 4g/5g communication or wifi, and one for GPS). These can be used with directly attached or cabled antennas, allowing for use in locations without wired network connectivity. Our GreenMesh specialists can help you select the communication options that work best for your site.

AmbientAI-V units can also be equipped with a GPS RTK subsystem for measuring movement with centimeter-level accuracy to continuously detect and quantify lateral displacement or subsidence.
